A Tyrrhenian Retreat
Arrival in Catania. Shortly thereafter, you sail to the Aeolian Islands, where the charm of the Mediterranean has remained intact. It is as if you had entered a different time. Salina is you base for a couple of days. You swim and hike at your leisure. After your exertion, you are rewarded with culinary wonders of incomparable freshness. Your guides take you to secret swimming spots that can only be reached by boat. These are near the island of Panarea, probably the chicest, most exclusive place in the Mediterranean. You walk through the bougambilia-covered streets and enjoy the food. In reality, it is just a preparation for what is to come: the fires of Stromboli.

After three days in the Aeolian Islands, you travel to Eastern Sicily. It is a dream landscape dominated by Mount Etna. You ascend to the heights of Etna. One of your guides is a naturalist who points out the fascinating vegetation on the slopes of the volcano. You visit craters that fill you with awe where you can feel the power of the mountain. It has shaped the island in more than one way: you mean wine, evidently. The volcanic ash has given the soil an uncanny fertility. Fiery notes that seduce the senses colour the wines of the region. The owners of some of the best wineries greet you with open arms and share with you their best vintage.
For centuries, fishermen have sailed out chanting to sea. You join a local fisherman who takes you to some of his favourite spots. The catch is plentiful and it is served during lunch at a local restaurant. Your visit ends in the city of Syracuse. You walk the Baroque streets, and discover Norman medieval churches, there are temples and archaeological sites that seem to blend perfectly within the city. Syracuse is not toured or visited, but experienced.Then you get it: your love affair with Sicily has only just begun.
